Chennai. India’s 18-year-old young chess player R Praggnanandhaa has registered a historic victory in the FIDE World Cup chess tournament. Along with this, he also has a golden opportunity to create a new history.
Indian chess grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa defeated world number three American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana to storm into the final of the FIDE World Cup on Monday, sending the country’s spirits high.
Meanwhile, India’s 18-year-old Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa booked his seat for the Candidates Tournament to be held in Canada next year.
The winner of the Candidates Tournament would challenge the current World Champion, Chinese GM Liren Ding, for the World Title.
Now the suspense and thrill is whether Praggnanandhan will win the World Cup by defeating the World No. 1, Norwegian GM Magnus Carlsen?
In round one, Praggnanandhaa defeated world number two US GM Hikaru Nakamura.
Having already defeated the World No. 2 and World No. 3 in the tournament, will Praggnanandhaa be able to beat the World No. 1, is the question now troubling everyone.
The answer will be known on Tuesday when the two players meet in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Apart from chess, the question being asked in the space sector is whether India will be lucky this time to soft-land its Moon lander near the South Pole after its failure in 2019.
In a special message, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chairman S. Somnath has said that the lander will be capable of soft landing even if all sensors and two engines fail and the primary objective of Chandrayaan-3 will be achieved.
The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft consists of a propulsion module (weight 2,148 kg), a lander (1,723.89 kg) and a rover (26 kg).
Recently, the Lander Module separated from the Propulsion Module and the Propulsion Module is also orbiting the Moon at an altitude of 25 km x 134 km.
Suspense and excitement prevailed across the country as India will attempt to soft-land its lander on the Moon on Wednesday evening.
