Sharjah. Mohammad Nabi’s brilliant innings of 38 not out after a brilliant performance by the bowlers helped Afghanistan beat Pakistan by six wickets in the first T20I to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
It was the first meeting between the two teams after 11 years and Pakistan were playing without several stars including regular captain Babar Azam on Friday night.
Nabi shared an unbeaten 53-run partnership with Najibullah Zadran (17 not out). Afghanistan won by scoring 98 runs for four wickets in 17.5 overs. Earlier, Pakistan had scored 92 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs.
Afghanistan continued to perform well after losing the toss and being invited to bowl. Pakistan lost their wickets at regular intervals due to which their innings could never get going.
Fazalhaq Farooqui, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Nabi took two wickets each and spent a total of 34 runs in their 11 overs.
Chasing the target, Afghanistan were in trouble at one time losing four wickets for 45 runs, but Nabi played with patience and made an unbeaten partnership with Najibullah Zadran to take Afghanistan to the destination of easy victory.
Pakistan will look to bounce back in the second match on March 27 while Afghanistan will be eyeing a historic series win.(IANS)
