Medininagar, Chandrashekhar: Two drug smugglers from Uttar Pradesh have been sentenced to 20-20 years of rigorous imprisonment in Jharkhand. Besides, a fine has also been imposed on him. The court of Neeraj Kumar Srivastava, District and Sessions Judge of Palamu District Behavioral Court and Special Judge of NDPS Act, has given this punishment to two people involved in drug smuggling.

FIR was lodged in Palamu against two people from Uttar Pradesh

If the person convicted does not pay the fine, he will have to face additional jail sentence of 6 months. In this case, the then station in-charge of Medininagar Sadar police station, Gautam Kumar, had filed a named FIR against truck driver Mohammad Faizan, resident of Ramzanpur, under Saharanpur police station of Uttar Pradesh, and truck owner Shahzad, resident there.

Sadar police station had seized the truck on 14 April 2023.

An FIR was registered under Section 15 and 22 of the Narcotics Act on Sadar police station case number 40/2023 dated 14 April 2023. The accused were accused that on April 14, 2023, the informant of this case, Gautam Kumar, was checking vehicles near Chianki check post. During checking, Shahzad was taken away along with truck number UP-11 CT 2769.

Dodas were carrying 54 sacks under empty plastic carts.

Upon inspection of the truck, it was found that there were 54 sacks of doda under 300 empty plastic cartons, which weighed 700 kg. These people were buying Poppy Etra from Khunti and taking it to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. Mohammad Faizan was the driver of the truck and Shahzad was the owner of the truck.

In the statement given by the accused to the police, they told that they had purchased poppy from Khunti and were taking it to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. The court found truck owner Shehzad and truck driver Mohammad Faizan guilty under Section 15(c) of the Narcotics Act and sentenced both of them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment. Also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh each.

Special PP Anurag Singh argued on behalf of the government

The special judge said that in case of non-payment of fine amount, the culprits will have to face additional punishment of six months. In this case, Anurag Singh of Special PP NDPS Case had argued on behalf of the prosecution. He presented the government’s side.
