39 member core group declared for hockey camp

Hockey India on Tuesday announced a 39-member core group squad for the men’s national camp in preparation for the upcoming Five Nations tournament in Spain. Head coach Craig Fulton wants to prepare for next year’s Paris Olympics with a fresh approach. The Indian men’s hockey team had qualified for the Paris Olympics by winning the gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Now the team will play a five-nation tournament in Valencia from December 15. World champions Germany, France, Belgium and hosts Spain are the other teams in the tournament. The men’s national coaching camp will begin from Wednesday at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) center in Bengaluru.
Fulton said, “It has been a long break after a successful campaign at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Most of the players in the team took part in the National Championship in Chennai and I also got the opportunity to watch some of the young and upcoming players playing from close quarters. He said, “We will now come together at the SAI Center in Bengaluru with a new approach in our preparations for the Paris Olympics. ,
Fulton further said, “As I have said, this is a process and we will look at the Asian Games campaign and understand how we can improve as a team and work in that direction. The core group of the national camp includes all the 18 players who won gold medals in the Asian Games last month.
Team captain Harmanpreet Singh said, “The last week has been great as we spent time with family and also played for our home state in the National Championship in Chennai. Now we will try to improve the team in the national camp.
