Baharampur, 03 September (Hindustan Times). The 77th ‘National Open Swimming Championship’ began in Murshidabad district on Sunday. This swimming competition is organized by Mushidabad District Swimming Agency. The competition was closed for the last three years due to the Covid pandemic.
On Sunday morning, Murshidabad Zilla Parishad President Rubia Sultana inaugurated the swimming competition from Ahiran Barrage Ghat by hoisting the flag. This competition will end at Baharampur Krishnanath College Ghat. The 81 km long distance swimming competition to be held in Bhagirathi river is considered to be the longest distance competition in the world in which 22 swimmers from all over the world are participating. These include five female participants.
According to the organisers, this year, competitors from Spain, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and several states of India are participating in the 81 km long swimming competition. At the same time, the 19 km long swimming competition for women and men organized by the organization will start from Jiaganj Sadar Ghat today. It has been informed by the organization that this year 16 contestants in the women’s category and 31 in the men’s category have participated in the 19 kilometer race.
