Hyderabad: India’s fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first match of the Test series against England.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) said Jasprit Bumrah was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct in the Hyderabad Test, which relates to inappropriate physical contact with a player, umpire, match referee or anyone else.
ICC has reprimanded Bumrah, he was not fined. This was his first offense in 24 months. However, the ICC took action and added one demerit point to his record.
This incident happened in the 81st over of England’s second innings. Bumrah had deliberately stepped into the path of Ollie Pope. Pope had run to take a run. Bumrah’s actions resulted in inappropriate physical contact. However, captain Rohit Sharma took charge of the matter and calmed down both the players.
The 28-run defeat to England in the opening match of the Test series is the team’s second defeat in the ongoing 2023-2025 World Test Championship cycle, meaning India have dropped three places to fifth in the current rankings.
Two-time WTC runners-up India’s points percentage has now dropped from 54.16 to 43.33. Apart from this, they are now behind South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh in the WTC points table.
