Patna. Patna Pirates put up a defensive masterclass in front of the home crowd as they defeated Gujarat Giants 32-20 in Pro Kabaddi League season 10 here on Monday and moved up to fourth place in the table.

Defensive duo Ankit (6 points) and Krishna (5 points) were the star performers of the day as Patna Pirates’ defense scored an incredible 15 tackle points.

The low-scoring game was defined by the way the Patna Pirates defense refused to concede too many points despite being outnumbered for most of the game. Gujarat Giants raiders Partik Dahiya and Nitin kept getting touchpoints, but were not able to do so at crucial moments of the game.

Krishna and Ankit’s ability to pull off super tackles when their team needed it most kept Patna Pirates surprisingly close to the points despite having fewer players on the mat. They went into the halftime breakdown down by just two points.

A similar trend continued in the second half as Gujarat Giants continued to keep Patna Pirates’ numbers down but were unable to get an all-out when needed. In an off night for Fazel Atrachali, Irani did not score a single point in the entire game, instead managing five unsuccessful tackles.

Patna Pirates turned the tables in the last three minutes of the game. Sandeep Kumar started Gujarat Giants’ collapse with a do-or-die raid and returned with three touch points. They scored their first and only all-out of the game to take a 30–19 lead a minute before the end of the game and won on the strength of that defensive dominance.
