Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Abhishek Sharma revealed that the presence of his parents helped him put up a breathtaking display of power-hitting in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad. His record-breaking innings of 63 runs off just 23 balls stunned the spectators as Hyderabad secured their first win of the season by 31 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday night.

Abhishek attributed his exceptional performance to the presence of his parents at the stadium, and revealed that their support inspired him to excel on the field. Buoyed by his presence, he hit a flurry of fours and sixes and broke Travis Head’s previous record by scoring the fastest fifty in just 16 balls.

“I really enjoyed when I was batting with Travis Head and he is one of my favorite batsmen currently. “He is very clear about his views and he just asked me to express myself,” Abhishek said in a video posted by IPL.

The young batsman’s partnership with Heinrich Klaasen further enhanced Hyderabad’s dominance, as he adopted a fearless approach to batting that epitomized his plan of simply “breaking the ball” strategy. Abhishek’s friendship with Head added to his happiness, with the Australian batsman’s encouragement allowing him to express himself freely at the crease.

“I asked Klaasen ‘What’s your plan, what should we do now’? He said, ‘If you get the ball, you hit, if I get the ball I hit.’ So, I think it’s a very positive thought. It’s really good for them and for us too. The secret of my performance would be that my parents came to watch my match today after such a long time. Somewhere Somewhere, I was also encouraged that I had to perform in front of them.

Abhishek added, “All of us teammates, talk to each other, they are very positive about others too. We know about the Orange Army that whenever there is a match here, everything is orange. It just shows. That support really motivates us and keeps us going.”

Reflecting on the match, Abhishek highlighted the positive team atmosphere within the Hyderabad camp, where the players support and uplift each other. The overwhelming support of the passionate fan base of Orange Army, Hyderabad acted as an additional source of motivation for the team.

Abhishek’s explosive innings not only earned him the Player of the Match award but also etched his name in IPL history as he hit 38 sixes and scored a total of 523 runs in the record-breaking match.
