Afghanistan team announced for World Cup, Naveen Ul Haq gets place

Kabul. Afghanistan have announced their 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s World Cup to be held in India in October.

Fast bowler Naveen Ul Haq, who last played a List A match in 2021. He is returning to the team after two years, while senior all-rounder Gulbadin Naib is out of the team despite good performance in the ongoing Asia Cup.

Naveen has played seven ODI matches for Afghanistan and has taken 14 wickets at an average of 25.42.

Meanwhile, Naib shone on his ODI comeback in the Pakistan series and later took four wickets against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup but he could not find a place in the World Cup squad.

Azmatullah Omarzai, who was out of the Asia Cup due to injury, has also returned to the team.

The team led by Hashmatullah Shahidi has made four changes from the group that played in the Asia Cup. Apart from Naib, Karim Janat, Sharafuddin Ashraf and Suleman Safi also missed out.

However, with Naveen’s return to the team, Afghanistan will now have bowling depth with Fazalhaq Farooqui, Abdul Rehman and Omarzai.
