After scoring his record 49th century, Virat said, It was a difficult wicket to bat on.

Kolkata. Virat Kohli has revealed that the wicket on which he completed his 49th ODI century by scoring 101 not out off 121 balls while batting against South Africa at the Eden Gardens was difficult to bat on.

Kohli’s useful century came in 119 balls and included 10 fours. Kohli scored his 49th century in only his 289th ODI, taking him 173 matches less than the great Sachin Tendulkar, who did so in his 463rd match.

The 34-year-old batsman also completed his 79th century for India and is now 21 centuries behind Tendulkar’s world record of 100 centuries.

Virat Kohli told the broadcasters, “It was a wicket which was difficult to bat on. We got a great start. When I came in, my job was to keep the momentum going. But after 10 overs the ball started gaining grip and the wicket started slowing down. My role was to bat deep till the end after the openers were out because that’s what I did, that was the communication too – to get people to bat around me. ,

“Shreyas has also started batting well. Shreyas and I had a lot of practice sessions before the Asia Cup and always batted together at No. 3 and 4. Both of us are comfortable against the spinners,” he said.

“When you lose two wickets and Hardik (Pandya) is not there, you need to bat deep and get into a position where the opposition feels we have to stop them. Thank God I got that.” There have been moments like this.”
