Mumbai The New Zealand team could not register a memorable win in the semi-finals against India like in 2019, but New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is proud of their effort to stay in the fight till the end and move forward as a team.
New Zealand had made it to the last four stage after recovering from the injuries of Kane Williamson and fast bowler Tim Southee. However, this team was troubled many times in the tournament due to injuries to its players, but despite this it managed to reach the semi-finals.
In the first semi-final played at Wankhede on Wednesday, New Zealand lost in front of the brilliant performance of Rohit Sharma’s team.
Batting first, India scored a huge score of 397/4 runs. In reply, strong innings by Williamson (69) and Daryl Mitchell (134) took New Zealand far ahead in the match but the Kiwis were reduced to 327 runs in front of the Indian bowlers.
After the match, Williamson said, “First of all, congratulations to India. They played very well, probably their best match of the tournament. The target of 400 runs is tough but the team fought which we are proud of. It is disappointing to be out of the tournament but “Very proud of the team’s effort. The team performed brilliantly over the last seven weeks.”
He also praised his players for their incredible contribution. Especially the captain praised Rachin Ravindra and Mitchell for the way they batted in this tournament.
