Bengaluru, 4 December (Hindustan Reporter) Ahmedabad Defenders, the defending champions of the Prime Volleyball League Season 2, is set to etch their name in history as the first Indian team to compete at the Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship 2023. Ahmedabad Defenders has announced its team for the Club World Championship to be held in Bengaluru. The team has a mix of experience and emerging talent, which is set to leave a lasting impression in the competition.
Dakshinamurthy Sundaresan, head coach of Ahmedabad Defenders, said on his team’s prospects in this prestigious tournament, “We have a very talented team who has prepared well for the competition, we have worked extensively on physical, technical and tactical aspects in our training. We are focused on scale. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase Indian volleyball to the world. I am sure we will give our best.”
The 15-member team will be led by Muthuswamy Appavu, while Tamilavanan Srikanth and Ramanathan Ramamurthy will serve as liberos. The attacking responsibility will include Australians Max Senik, Amit Gulia, Azmath Ullah, Santosh Sahay, Anthony Raj and Nandagopal Subramaniam.
Ashwal Rai, Shamimuddin Ammarambath, Srijan U Shetty, Parth Patel and Manoj Manjunath will handle the responsibility of middle blocker. Apart from these, captain Muthuswamy Appavu and Ukrapandian Mohan will act as setters for the team. Angamuthu Ramaswamy will hold the post of Universe.
Ahmedabad Defenders have been placed in Pool A along with defending champions Sir Siccom Perugia of Italy and Minas Tennis Club (Itambe Minas) of Brazil. Meanwhile, Pool B features Halkbank Spor Kulubu from Turkey, Sada Cruzeiro Volei from Brazil and Japanese club Suntory Sunbirds. Ahmedabad Defenders will begin their campaign against Minas Tennis Club (Itambe Minas) on 6th December. The Men’s Volleyball Club World Championship 2023 will be telecast live on Sony Sports Network in India and telecast globally on Volleyball World.
