Mumbai: Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane on Friday said that Shreyas Iyer should leave behind the central contract related controversy and perform well for the team in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu starting here from Saturday.
Jharkhand’s Ishan Kishan along with Shreyas did not get a place in the annual central contract of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as both the players did not play Ranji Trophy matches for their team. Shreyas did not play in Mumbai’s quarterfinal against Baroda due to back pain.
Rahane told the media here, “He is a very experienced player. Whenever he has played for Mumbai, his contribution has been excellent. He is a great presence in our team for the semi-finals. Rahane said that Shreyas does not need any kind of inspiration or advice to perform well for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu.
“I don’t think he needs any advice or encouragement,” he said. He has always contributed with the bat for Mumbai and his presence in the dressing room will help other players also contribute for the team. The Mumbai captain also confirmed that opener Prithvi Shaw has recovered from the finger injury that forced him to bat in the middle order in the quarterfinals.
Rahane said, “His finger was injured when he came down to bat in the order. We wanted to send him before Musheer Khan but due to the effect of the injection, he came to bat after him. He said, “Prithvi bats very aggressively. I don’t think there has been any change in him as a batsman. He is hungry to score runs. This is what we want from the Earth. We don’t want him to change his game. ,
