New Delhi: Former India and Chennai Super Kings cricketer Ambati Rayudu will join the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots squad ahead of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2023 season. The league will start from 16th August and will be played till 24th September. Ambati Rayudu has been signed as the marquee player for the upcoming CPL season. Rayudu retired from Indian and international cricket after playing a key role in helping Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title in Ahmedabad in May this year.
“I am really excited to join the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots,” Rayudu was quoted as saying in the report. I am looking forward to contribute for the team in the upcoming CPL 2023. After the IPL, he was signed by the Texas Super Kings for the Major League Cricket (MLC) competition in the United States. But a few days before the start of the league, Rayudu pulled out of the competition as the BCCI thought of introducing a one-year cooling-period for retired Indian players before participating in overseas franchise T20 leagues.

The report states that with the BCCI yet to clear its stand on the cooling-period proposal, it is not yet known whether it will affect Rayudu’s participation in the 2023 CPL. If Rayudu is cleared, he will become the second Indian player after leg-spinner Pravin Tambe to feature in the men’s CPL. Tambe played for Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2020 CPL. The Patriots will begin their 2023 CPL campaign against TKR on August 19 in St. Lucia. CPL 2023 will also see India’s uncapped off-spin all-rounder Shreyanka Patil become the first Indian to feature in the women’s edition of the tournament after being signed by Guyana Amazon Warriors.
