Anju told PTI, “The long jump she (Shelly) has done at the age of 19 is amazing. At the age of nineteen she jumped 6.76 metres. She is a rare talent and we have to nurture her very carefully so that when she matures, she becomes one of the best players in the world. Indian female athlete Anju and her husband Robert Bobby George discovered Shelly in 2017 when she was just 13 years old.

Shaili is currently training under the guidance of Robert who is also the High Performance Coach at the Sports Authority of India’s National Center of Excellence in Bengaluru. Anju said winning the bronze medal in Japan was the first step towards Shelly’s transformation from a promising athlete to a consistent medal winner at the global level. He said, “This medal will boost his confidence a lot. You need these kind of competitions and respect for change. Age is on her side and she will achieve more in the years to come.

“I am hopeful that Shelly can win at least one medal in the Asian Games and also qualify for the World Championships in Budapest,” said Anju. : Had jumped 6.55m, 6.51m and 6.50m. If Shaili clears 6.85m to qualify for the World Championships to be held in Budapest from August 19 to 27, she will break Anju’s national record, which she set during the 2004 Athens Olympics. Shaili was brought up by her mother, who works as a tailor in a village in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh. Anju said, “She is very dedicated and hardly goes home.
