Ashes 2023: Joe Root created history on the very first day, went ahead of Sir Don Bradman

London: The thrill of the Ashes series 2023 between England and Australia has begun. The first match of the five-Test series between the two teams is being played at the Oval Cricket Ground in London. In the first Test, hosts England decided to bat first after winning the toss. Although the start was nothing special and England lost their wicket on the score of just 22 runs, but after that the news of every bowler of Australia was taken. Especially former captain Joe Root created a sensation with his stormy innings. Joe Root scored an unbeaten 118 off 152 balls till the innings was declared. This was Root’s 30th century in Test cricket. With this, he left behind Australia’s great batsman Sir Dr Bradman. Actually Joe Root has now gone ahead of Bradman in terms of scoring a century. Joe Root scored his 30th century in the 238th innings of the 130th match.

And Sir Don Bradman has done the feat of scoring 29 centuries in 52 matches. During this he scored 6996 runs at an average of 99.94. Apart from 29 centuries, he has also played 13 half-century innings for Australia.

England declared innings on the first day

On the very first day of the first match of the Ashes series 2023, England declared their innings by scoring 398 runs for 8 wickets. Apart from Joe Root’s century for England, Johnny Bairstow also played an inning of 78 runs while batting in a blistering manner. Bairstow was returning to the England team after a long time.

Apart from this, Jack Crowley scored a quick 61 runs in 73 balls. While Ollie Pope also contributed 31 runs, Harry Brook was unfortunately dismissed after scoring 32 runs in 37 balls.

Nathan Lyon was the most successful in bowling for Australia. Nathan Lyon took 4 wickets for 149 runs in 29 overs. Apart from Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood got two wickets while Scott Blund and Cameron Green took one wicket each.
