Asia Cup 2023: Babar Azam broke this big world record of Virat Kohli

Pakistan captain Babar Azam on Wednesday registered a new world record in his name, leaving behind India’s star batsman Virat Kohli. Playing against Bangladesh in the Super 4 match at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Babar scored 17 runs in 22 balls before becoming the victim of Bangladesh fast bowler Taskin Ahmed.
This innings helped the right-handed batsman reach 2000 ODI runs as captain. Babar overtook world record holder Virat Kohli, who had achieved the feat in 36 innings, in just 31 innings. South African great AB de Villiers is at third place in this list with 41 innings, while Australia’s great Michael Clarke is at fourth place with 46 innings.
Talking about the Pakistan vs Bangladesh game on Wednesday, Haris Rauf bowled some unfavorable shots. Whereas Imam-ul-Haq played a stormy innings of 78 runs, due to which Pakistan won an easy victory over Bangladesh by seven wickets. Rauf (6-0-19-4) proved too fast for the Bangladeshi batsmen, who were also troubled by Naseem Shah (5.4-0-34-3) after Shakib-al-Hasan opened the batting.
Despite a 100-run partnership and two half-centuries from Shakib (53 runs off 57 balls) and former captain Mushfiqur Rahim (64 runs off 87 balls), Bangladesh ultimately collapsed to 193 runs in just 38.4 overs. The target was never going to pose a problem for the hosts, who achieved it in just 39.3 overs.
Even though Fakhar Zaman’s poor form continued and Babar Azam was played to a low ball from Taskin Ahmed, southpaw Imam performed brilliantly during his 84-ball innings. Opening the innings with Mohammad Rizwan (63 not out off 79 balls), he hit five fours and four sixes. Both added 85 runs for the third wicket and ensured that there was no problem in chasing the target.
His two sixes – a pull-shot over mid-wicket over Mehidy Hasan Miraj and an inside out lofted over long-off against Shakib testified to Imam’s talent. Pakistan will now once again go to Colombo to face arch-rival India in its second Super Four match on Sunday.
Earlier, Bangladesh suffered two batting failures – first the top order blew up in the power play and the lower middle order collapsed like a pack of cards by the end of the innings. During the first powerplay, their score was 47 runs for 4 wickets and then between 30 and 39 overs, six wickets fell for 47 runs. Rauf terrorized the batsmen with his fast pace while Naseem also added seam and swing to it.
