With the help of captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill’s blistering half-centuries, India beat Nepal by 10 wickets in a rain-affected match here on Monday by Duckworth-Lewis method and made it to the Super Four of the Asia Cup one-day cricket tournament. India vs Nepal

From Group A, India and Pakistan made it to the Super Four with three points each, while Nepal were knocked out of the tournament after losing both their matches. The match between India and Pakistan was marred by rain. In this match too, due to rain, the game could not be played for about three hours. Nepal scored 230 runs in 48.2 overs after being invited to bat first.

When India scored 17 runs without loss in 2.1 overs, the game was stopped for almost two hours due to rain. After this, India got the target of 145 runs in 23 overs by Duckworth-Lewis method. India won by scoring 147 runs in 20.1 overs without any loss.

Rohit scored an unbeaten 74 off 59 balls with the help of six fours and five sixes, while Gill scored an unbeaten 67 off 62 balls which included eight fours and a six. Asif Sheikh (58 off 97 balls) and Kushal Bhurtel (38 off 25 balls) got off to a good start for Nepal, who were bowled out for 104 in their last match against Pakistan, adding 65 runs for the first wicket. In the lower order, Sompal made a useful contribution of 48 runs off 56 balls.

The Indian bowlers failed to make an impact against the inexperienced Nepalese batsmen. For India, Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets for 40 runs, but the second spinner Kuldeep Yadav (34 runs in 10 overs) did not get any success. Among fast bowlers, Mohammad Siraj took three wickets for 61 runs while Mohammad Shami, Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya got one wicket each.

India’s opening pair, however, got good batting practice. He took an aggressive approach from the beginning. Gill scored 12 runs when the game resumed after the rain, while Rohit extended his innings by four runs. Both of them targeted Nepal’s leading spinner Sandeep Lamichhane.

When Rohit was on 16, Lamichhane could have got his wicket but Gulshan Jha could not catch at deep square leg and the ball went for six runs. Rohit and Gill then completed the century partnership in 13.4 overs by batting in their natural style. Rohit meanwhile completed his half-century in 39 balls.

Gill then hit a four off Lamichhane to complete his fifty in 47 balls. Later he also hit the winning four. Earlier India’s fielding was not expected. He had a chance to send both Nepal openers to the pavilion on the first seven balls of the match, but Shreyas Iyer dropped Bhurtel’s catch on the last ball of the first over of Shami’s innings, while Virat Kohli dismissed Asif on Siraj’s first ball. Dropped the catch. Ishan Kishan also gave life to Bhurtel.

After this, Nepal’s batsmen made a good effort to put pressure on the Indian bowlers by taking the ball to the boundary line at regular intervals. Nepal scored 65 runs for one wicket in 10 overs of the first powerplay, which included seven fours and two sixes.

India got the first success in the 10th over by getting Bhurtel caught behind by Thakur, who hit three fours and two sixes in his innings. Jadeja did not allow captain Rohit Podel (05) and Kushal Malla (02) to survive either.

Asif completed his half-century off 88 balls, but after that Siraj forced him to be caught at short cover and this time Kohli also made no mistake. Asif hit eight fours in his innings. Gulshan Jha (23) was the third batsman to reach double figures. Siraj got him caught by Kishan.

When Nepal scored 178 runs for six wickets in 37.5 overs, the game was stopped for an hour due to rain. Dipendra Singh Airey (29) and Sompal completed their half-century partnership at the start of the game. Hardik broke this partnership by dismissing Ari lbw. Nepal reached beyond 200 runs in the 44th over. Sompal then hit sixes on Hardik and Siraj but Shami did not allow them to complete their half-century.
