In the meeting of the ACC Executive Board held in Bahrain on Saturday, nothing has been cleared yet regarding the hosting of the Asia Cup and the tension between the cricket boards of the two countries is increasing.
India will not tour Pakistan for Asia Cup
BCCI Secretary and head of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Jay Shah has already made it clear that the Indian team will not tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup. At the same time, PCB Chief Najam Sethi has told Jai Shah that ‘Pakistan wants to host the Asia Cup and if the tournament is held elsewhere, Pakistan’s team will not participate in the ODI World Cup to be held in India this year’. Earlier, former PCB chief Rameez Raja had also given a similar response. He had said that, if the issue of Asia Cup is not settled between the cricket boards of the two countries, then Pakistan may boycott the ODI World Cup to be held in India later this year.
Pakistan clarified its stand
A PCB source told that Najam Sethi told Jay Shah his stand that ‘Pakistan will not let the hosting of the Asia Cup or the Champion Trophy in 2025 go away. The source said, ‘Najam Sethi has made his stand clear. He had met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday. He said that the Asia Cup is a multi-team tournament and the Pakistan government is ready to give security assurance to the Indian team. After this, there is no reason why the BCCI should not send the team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in September.
Will meet again in March
The source further said, ‘Sethi told the ACC members that before the next meeting, the BCCI should talk to its government and clear its stand whether it will send its team for the Asia Cup or not so that Pakistan can also join the ICC with India.
