“There is a technical committee which is represented by the six teams participating in the tournament,” he said on the eve of the ‘Super Four’ stage match against Sri Lanka. He might have taken this decision for some other reason. Hathurasingha indicated that no unanimous decision had been taken on the issue and his team would also like to have a ‘reserve’ day for matches.
“This is not ideal and we would like an additional day,” he said. Hathurasingha also indicated that the officials concerned did not consult other teams before arriving at the decision. He said, ‘I have no further comment on this because they have already taken the decision and if they had consulted us earlier, we would have given our opinion.’
Silverwood said he was surprised when he was informed about the decision to keep an extra day for the India-Pakistan match. He said, ‘Obviously, I was a little surprised when I heard it for the first time. But we don’t organize the competition, so we can’t do much about it.
The Sri Lankan coach said that the reserve day could give unfair advantage to India or Pakistan. “To be honest, I only consider it a problem as long as it helps other teams score points and it affects our campaign,” he said.
