Asia Cup: Bangladesh’s Nazmul Hossain Shanto ruled out with hamstring injury

Lahore. Najmul Hossain Shanto, the leading run-scorer for Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2023, has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
Shanto was seen struggling with hamstring trouble during his innings of 104 runs in the match played against Afghanistan on Sunday. The next day, an MRI report confirmed a hamstring strain and Shanto was advised rest by the medical team to keep him safe for the 2023 World Cup.
National team physio Bayzedul Islam Khan said, “Shanto complained of hamstring pain while batting and could not field. We had an MRI scan, which confirmed a hamstring injury. As a precaution, Shanto will take no further part in the tournament and will return home to begin rehabilitation and prepare for the World Cup.”
Shanto has been the highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in the tournament. He was the top scorer in the first match, scoring a fighting 89 against Sri Lanka. He then scored a brilliant century against Afghanistan, helping Bangladesh post the third-highest score in men’s ODIs.
Liton Das, who was initially kept out of the original squad due to ill health. He reached Lahore on Tuesday morning to join the team in place of Shanto.(IANS)
