Asia Cup: India reached the final, defeated Sri Lanka by 41 runs

Colombo. The Super 4 match of the Asia Cup was played between India and Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Tuesday (12 September). India has defeated Sri Lanka by 41 runs in the Super 4 match of Asia Cup 2023 and made it to the final.

The Indian team, after winning the toss and batting first against Sri Lanka, scored 213 runs in 49.1 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored the highest 53 runs for India. Dunith Vellalage took five wickets for Sri Lanka, while Asalanka got four wickets. Sri Lanka did not have a good start while chasing the target of 214 runs. The team lost the wicket of Pathum Nissanka in the third over itself. Nissanka was out after scoring 6 runs. Bumrah dismissed him. After this Bumrah sent Kusal Mendis to the pavilion. Mendis was out after scoring 15 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne could score two runs, he was dismissed by Mohammed Siraj. Sadira remained at the crease for some time but Kuldeep Yadav dismissed him and sent him to the pavilion. Kuldeep also dismissed Aslanka. Asalanka scored 22 runs in 35 balls. Captain Shanaka could score only 9 runs. Dhananjay de Silva played an inning of 41 runs in 66 balls, he was caught out by Jadeja.

India had a good start after coming to bat first. There was a partnership of 80 runs for the first wicket between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. However, Dunith Vellallage forced the Indian batsmen to surrender by taking the wicket of Shubman Gill on his very first ball. Gill could score only 19 runs in 25 balls. Dunit Vellallage then dismissed Virat Kohli (3), Rohit Sharma (53), KL Rahul (39) and Ishan Kishan (33). Dunith Vellallage took a wicket on his first ball and then on the last ball of the match. He dismissed Hardik Pandya on the last ball. Asalanka dismissed Ravindra Jadeja (4). After this Asalanka dismissed Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav on consecutive balls. Both the teams have won their first match in the second round of the tournament, Sri Lanka had defeated Bangladesh by 21 runs on Saturday in their previous match in the ongoing tournament.
