In which country will India’s matches be held?
The weather is going to play a major role in deciding on a different venue for the matches outside Pakistan. The temperature in the UAE in early September is usually around 40 degrees centigrade, although there is a lot of cricket during this time too. The 2021 IPL was played only in late September. The temperature remains low in Muscat, the capital of Oman. There the matches of the first round of the 2021 T20 World Cup have taken place. England has also emerged as a big option. In a city like London, the stadium will be packed.
India-Pakistan in a group
India and Pakistan are in a group in this six-nation tournament. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are part of the second group. A total of 13 matches will be played over 13 days including the final. Similar to the format of the 2022 Asia Cup, the top-2 teams from each group will advance to the Super 4 and from there the top-2 teams will play in the final. India-Pakistan are likely to clash at least thrice in the tournament.
Pakistan started threatening
Regarding the Asia Cup 2023, there was constant tension between the cricket boards of both the countries. Pakistan had threatened to pull out of this year’s ODI World Cup to be held in India following the statement of playing at a neutral venue. The Asia Cup will be played in the 50-over format. The tournament, played before the World Cup to be held in India, was handed over to Pakistan by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Even before this, the Asia Cup has been organized at a neutral venue. Host Sri Lanka expressed its inability to host the Asia Cup 2022 amid the economic crisis, after which it was organized in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Pakistan tour has not happened since 2008
India and Pakistan teams only play each other in the Asia Cup and global events due to political tensions between the two countries. India has not toured Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup following the Mumbai terror attack. Pakistan last toured India in 2012 for a limited overs series. No bilateral series has been played between these two countries for the last 10 years. Both the teams had faced each other twice in the Asia Cup last year. PCB is upset because international cricket has returned to Pakistan and countries like England, Australia and West Indies have played cricket there.
