Akram said during an event, “Whether it is India or Pakistan or Sri Lanka, everyone would like to test whether the bowlers are capable of bowling 10 overs or not because these days they are used to four overs per match.” Asia Cup was played in T20 format last year but this time it is being organized in 50 overs format. Akram called it a welcome step.
“It is a good idea for the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) to organize the Asia Cup in the 50-over format as the World Cup will be held right after it,” he said. Akram refused to name any team as favourites, but said the road will not be easy for each team.
“Last time we had predicted the final between India and Pakistan but Sri Lanka won the tournament. All three teams are dangerous and any one of them can win. Other teams are also participating. Last time Sri Lanka won the title and India could not even reach the final. Akram said, ‘The match between India and Pakistan is important. We know a lot of people watch it but other teams have also come here to play and you can’t underestimate Sri Lanka or Bangladesh.
Akram said that India has selected a balanced team for the Asia Cup. He said, ‘I think he is trying different things, especially giving chances to new players in T20 format and he also has a new captain. Their team is balanced but the task will not be easy for India or any other team.
