Asia Games 2023: Indian contingent announced for Asian Games, Jharkhand’s Florence Barla also included

Sports Correspondent, Ranchi : The Sports Ministry on Friday approved a record 634 Indian athletes to participate in the Hangzhou Asian Games starting on 23 September. In the last 2018 Jakarta Asiad, 572 players from India had participated. Jharkhand in Indian team Florence Barla has also been selected. Florence has been included in the 4x400m women’s relay team. Apart from Florence, the relay team includes Sonia Vaish, Subha Venkatesan and Aishwarya Kailash Mishra.
Largest contingent for track and field events
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had recommended the names of 850 players for this continental tournament. The track and field event has the largest contingent of 65 players, including 34 men and 31 women. Players have been selected for 38 events of the Asian Games, including a total of 44 footballers (22 men and 22 women). The hockey team is at number three, consisting of 36 players.
The ministry has selected 18-18 players from the men’s and women’s categories. There are 15-15 members in the men’s and women’s cricket team. India has continued to perform exceptionally well in shooting, with a 30-member contingent competing in Hangzhou and 33 athletes cleared for rowing.
