Hangzhou: India’s Aditya Dhopavkar’s campaign in the Asian Games men’s 81kg Kurash event came to an end in the pre-quarterfinals when he lost in less than two minutes to Afghanistan’s S Hasan Baikara Rasooli here on Sunday. The 21-year-old Indian player suffered a 0-10 defeat to ‘Khalol’.
Khalol is used for easy victories. The Afghanistan player hit Aditya hard due to which he fell on the mat on both his shoulders. Upon review, the Afghan player was given ‘Khalol’, ending the match in less than two minutes.
Aditya made a good start in the four-minute match and scored ‘Chala’ (one point) against Rasooli but the Afghan player registered victory by erasing the lead of the Indian player through ‘Khalol’. India’s hopes in Kurash now rest on the shoulders of Jyoti Tokas (women’s 87 kg) and Yash Chauhan (men’s 90 kg) who will compete in the quarter-final bouts on Monday. If they win in the quarter-finals, at least bronze medals will be assured for these two players.
