On Wednesday, Indian star Neeraj Chopra will take the field for the men’s javelin throw event. Where he will end the season brilliantly by aiming for the gold medal. Neeraj Chopra, one of India’s finest athletes, may have his job made easier as his nearest rival and World Championship silver medalist Arshad Nadeem has already pulled out of the Games due to an old knee injury.
However, Neeraj has won all the competitions against Nadeem so far. Both have faced each other a total of 9 times. This also includes the 2018 Asian Games, where Pakistani players were third while Indian players were on top. Whereas Neeraj has not been able to cover the distance of 90 meters till now whereas Nadeem has achieved it.
Let us tell you that on Tuesday, the Pakistan team issued a press release saying that Arshad Nadeem, after consulting the medical personnel, has decided not to participate in the Asian Games to avoid any untoward situation. He does not want to take any risk regarding participation in Paris Olympics 2024.
He also said that the Chief Medical Officer of the Pakistan team had recommended a comprehensive investigation. Nadeem underwent an MRI and other medical tests at a local hospital in Hangzhou, which revealed that his old injury was still intact.
Neeraj Chopra had secured second place twice consecutively in Zurich Diamond League and Diamond League Grand Finale in Eugene. This may be a matter of concern to some extent. But he will start as a favorite in the Asian Games on Wednesday. India’s Kishore Jain will also present a challenge in this competition.
