Coimbatore: Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that China’s denial of visas to three players from Arunachal Pradesh is discriminatory and against the Olympic Charter and is not acceptable to India. Information and Broadcasting and Sports Minister Thakur said that this northeastern state is and will remain an integral part of India. He said that he has canceled his China tour in support of the players.
Three women wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh, Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega and Mapung Lamgu, have been denied ‘accreditation’, which also acts as a visa for the players, for the Asian Games. Thakur told reporters, “You can see that I am not in China.” I am in Coimbatore and supporting my players.
Such a partisan attitude from a country that is against the Olympic Charter is not acceptable. He said, “This step of China is not acceptable to India and that is why I have canceled my China tour because they did not give the players of Arunachal Pradesh a chance to participate in the Asian Games.”
