Aussies excited to face India in World Cup

New Delhi. Australia captain Pat Cummins is excited about taking on hosts India in the opening match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in Chennai on October 8. He said that his team is upbeat and would be ready to give their best to achieve success.
The marquee tournament will be held from October 5 to November 19. Ten teams will compete across 10 venues in the biggest Cricket World Cup ever, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the opening and final of the tournament.
Australia is the most successful team in the World Cup, having won the last of their five titles in 2015.
The five-time world champions will rely on their experience in their quest for a sixth title against two-time winners India, who will be a formidable opponent on home soil.
“Everyone in the cricket world is focused on the World Cup, so we can’t wait to be in the middle of it,” Cummins was quoted as saying by the ICC website. The Australian team has had some success in ODI and T20 cricket in recent years. Got it, so we should be excited to be there.
Cummins further said that facing India at their home ground in a World Cup match is a big test as the Men in Blue are one of the top teams in the world.
Cummins said, “You know there will be big crowds, but nothing will be bigger than playing India on home soil in a World Cup match, so it’s going to be exciting for us. It’s going to be a big challenge, they are a top-class team.” There are teams, but if you want to win the World Cup, you have to be better than everyone else, so why not go head-to-head with India?”
He said, “Winning the World Cup is a big deal. Luckily a few of us have won an ODI World Cup and a T20 World Cup, so there’s a lot of confidence in the group and a lot of experience as well. These are the kind of tournaments you look back on at the end of your career, so we will be there, excited and giving it our all.
Cummins said, “It’s a slightly different group, we all get on really well, so we’re excited. We’re going to have a lot of fun when we get there and we can’t wait to get there.”
The tournament retains the round-robin format of last time, with all teams playing against each other for a total of 45 league matches.
The top four teams will qualify for the semi-finals to be played in Mumbai on November 15 and Kolkata on November 16. There will be reserve days in the semi-finals and final.
