London. India had to face defeat in the World Test Championship final for the second time in a row. India suffered a 209-run defeat at the hands of Australia on the fifth day of the final on Sunday. India’s second innings was reduced to 234 runs. India lost their remaining seven wickets in the morning session.

India had lost to New Zealand for the first time. Australia had scored 469 runs in the first innings while the Indian team could reach only 296 runs. Australia declared their second innings at 270 for eight and set a difficult target of 444 runs in front of India. India’s second innings was reduced to 234 runs and Australia became the winner of the World Test Championship for the first time.

In this great match of Test cricket that lasted for five days, Australia finally won. It is the first team to have won the World Cup in every format of cricket. The way Australia’s batsmen batted on the first day, it was decided from there that their team is on the front foot in this match. After that the bowlers also performed brilliantly and did not give much chance to the Indian batsmen.

Although the Indian team tried to counter attack on the second and third day, but it could not prove to be effective. India got off to a great start in their second innings. The top four batsmen started their innings positively but Rohit, Kohli, Pujara, Rahane all made wrong shot selections which cost the team.

For Australia, off-spinner Nathan Lyon took four wickets for 41 runs and Scott Boland took three wickets for 46 runs. Australia’s Travis Head was awarded the player of the match for his brilliant 163 in the first innings.

Virat Kohli 49, Ajinkya Rahane 46, Shrikar Bharat 23 were dismissed from India today while Mohammed Shami remained unbeaten on 13 runs. India started the game yesterday at 164 for three. Virat 44 and Rahane 20 propelled the Indian innings.
