London: Australia are hopeful of Ravindra Jadeja being included in India’s playing XI for the World Test Championship final starting at The Oval on June 7 but they are not clear on the situation regarding Ravichandran Ashwin.
India had fielded both Ashwin (25 wickets) and Jadeja (22 wickets) in the recent Border Gavaskar Trophy series and their impressive performances helped India win the series 2-1. Ahead of Australia’s practice session at the Kent County Cricket Ground, Asst. Coach Daniel Vettori said the team management has talked a lot about India’s potential bowling attack.
He said, “We are talking about it. I think Jadeja will play because he is also a useful batsman. “He said,” Shardul Thakur or Ashwin can be one of the four bowlers and all-rounder but both are good options. Has taken 18 wickets but played only one match at The Oval.
Vettori said, “Ashwin is a brilliant bowler and will be the first choice in most of the teams but considering the team composition in the Oval conditions, he might have to stay out.” Cameron Green’s role in the final will be crucial. “Now there can be any format for preparation,” he said. He was practicing Tests consistently during the IPL as well. He has been impressive in the series against India and in the IPL which will come in handy for the team.
