Sydney: Australia captain Pat Cummins believes his team has created a career-defining legacy with the 2023 ODI World Cup victory after a long six-month journey in India and England.
After spending several days celebrating in India, Cummins and other Australian players began returning home on Wednesday morning.
“I think they’ve created their own legacy,” Cummins said of his team as they landed at Sydney Airport. “A World Cup, you only get one chance every four years and especially in a place like India.” It’s hard to play.”
Cummins, who was praised for his leadership in the semi-finals and final, confessed that after Australia’s early defeats to India and South Africa, he felt his tournament was almost over.
Cummins said, “To be honest (I thought we had a lot of chances). It really almost became sudden death. We thought we had to be faultless enough to get to the semi-finals. And we were pretty That’s how it was until that point. We started finding ways to win, even when we weren’t having our best days.”
“Even before the tournament, we knew that playing ODI cricket in India is a tough task. To stand up against the rest of the world and come away with a medal, it doesn’t get any better than that. We could do that.” They have planned even better. So there is a very satisfied group.”
Cummins and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood arrived in Sydney on Wednesday morning, while head coach Andrew McDonald and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh landed at Melbourne Airport. Marnus Labuschagne lands in Brisbane.
Seven members of the squad are staying in India to take part in the upcoming T20 series, while the other half have returned to prepare for the Test summer.
