Australia should pick David Warner for World Test Championship final: Mark Taylor

Sydney | Opener David Warner has undoubtedly struggled in the red-ball series in India but former skipper Mark Taylor believes Australia are left with the World Test Championship final against India at The Oval in June and the subsequent Ashes series in England. Hand batsman should be selected.

Taylor said Australia should show confidence in left-handed batsman Warner, who regained his form after scoring a double hundred in the Boxing Day Test against South Africa. Warner, however, made scores of 1 and 10, 15 and did not bat in the first two Tests in India. After that he had to return home due to injury.

Barring a 200 against South Africa, Warner was unable to score a half-century in his last 18 Test innings and averaged a modest 9.50 in the last Ashes tour of 2019.

Despite this, Taylor believes the Australian selectors, who will pick their squads this week for the World Test Championship final and the first two Ashes Tests, will stick with the 36-year-old.

The former Test captain told AAP, “I think he will stick with Warner for the World Test Championship final. If he has to think about the World Test Championship final, he will have to stick with Warner.”
