Sydney, 3 August (Hindustan). Indian star women’s badminton player P.V. Sindhu, former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth and youngster Priyanshu Rajawat advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Badminton Championships, while defending national champion Mithun Manjunath crashed out in the second round.
Sindhu, who won a silver at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 and a bronze at Tokyo 2020, defeated compatriot Aakarshi Kashyap 21-14, 21-10 in a match that lasted 29 minutes.
Srikanth registered an equally comprehensive win at the BWF World Tour Super 500 event, beating Su Li Yang of Chinese Taipei 21-10, 21-17 in his second round match on Court 3 of the Quay Centre. Rajawat defeated Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei 21-8, 13-21, 21-19 in a match that lasted 59 minutes.
Mithun Manjunath went down in the second round to experienced Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in three games 21-13, 12-21, 21-19.
Fifth seed Sindhu will next face fourth seed Beiwen Zhang of Malaysia in the tournament.
Srikanth, who beat Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-18, 21-7 in the first round, will take on compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat for a place in the semi-finals.
