Australia’s legendary batsman David Warner also retired from ODI after Test – Dainik Savera Times

That if the Australian team needs him for the Champions Trophy to be held in 2025, he will be available for selection. Before playing his final Test match at his home ground Sydney Cricket Ground, Warner revealed that Australia’s World Cup final against India in November was his last match in the 50-over format.

“I am definitely retiring from one-day cricket as well,” Warner said in a press conference here on Monday. This was something I said during the (50-over) World Cup (in India in 2023) to win in India. This is indeed a huge achievement.

He said, “So today I have decided to retire from these formats which will also give me a chance to play in other leagues around the world.” I know that the Champions Trophy will be held soon. If I keep playing good cricket in these two years and they feel the need for me, then I will be available for selection.

‘ Warner, one of the explosive batsmen in the world, has two ODI World Cup titles in his name, which also includes the final victory against India in the World Cup 2023. In this tournament, he scored the most runs for Australia. Left-handed opening batsman Warner started his ODI career in 2009 against South Africa in Hobart.

He played 161 ODI matches in his career in which he scored 6932 runs at an average of 45.30. He also has 22 centuries and 33 half-centuries in his name in this format. He is at sixth position in the list of batsmen who have scored most runs in ODI cricket for Australia.

He is second after Ricky Ponting in the list of players who have scored most centuries for Australia. Ponting played 205 more innings than Warner. Warner has played 111 test matches so far in which he has 8695 runs in his name at an average of 44.58. He has 26 centuries and 36 half-centuries in his name in Test cricket.

He will be available to play T20 cricket for Australia and hopes to get a chance to represent his country in the World Cup to be held in West Indies and America in June. Warner is playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League and after retiring from Test and ODI, he is likely to play in T20 leagues around the world.
