Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and the top two doubles teams have withdrawn from the Uber Cup but the strong team in the men’s category will play in the Thomas Cup badminton tournament to be held in Chengdu from April 27. Sindhu has played six tournaments since her comeback through the Badminton Asia Championship in February. BAI Secretary Sanjay Mishra said, “Sindhu is making a comeback after injury and needs time to prepare for the Paris Olympics. The doubles teams have also withdrawn as they have played a lot of tournaments in the recent past and now the focus is on qualification.

India is the defending champion in the Thomas Cup and this time too it has fielded a strong team. It has five singles players Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, Priyanshu Rajawat and Kiran George. World number one pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will also play.

Doubles: Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and M R Arjun and Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratik

Uber Cup Team:

Singles: Anmol Kharab, Tanvi Sharma, Ashmita Chaliha, Isharani Barua

Doubles: Shruti Mishra, Priya Konjengbam, Simran Singhi and Ritika Thaker.
