Bad news for India, Team India out of Junior Women’s World Cup

Santiago (Uttam Hindu News)-The fourth day of the FIH Junior Women’s World Cup decided the fate of some teams as India and South Africa crashed out of the competition, while the four other teams from Pools A and C – Netherlands, Australia, Belgium and Germany – Secured its place in the top 8.

Belgium won 3-2 over India in a thrilling encounter to top the table in Pool C, while Germany registered a big win over Canada to finish second in Pool C.

In Pool A, Australia and the Netherlands, who had almost booked their places in the quarter-finals, ensured that they finished higher by defeating South Africa and Chile by wide margins.

These four teams have secured their place in the quarter-finals while the third and fourth placed teams in their respective pools will have to play classification matches for the 9th to 16th places.

There was a tough fight between India and Belgium in the first match of the day on Saturday night. In the fifth minute, Noah Schreurs opened the account for Belgium by scoring a field goal. After this it was an equal match and both the teams were trying to create chances to score goals.

Frans De Mot scored another goal for Belgium to double their lead, but then India’s star player in this contest was Annu, who brought India back into the game by scoring two goals within five minutes. However, Astrid Bonamy’s winning goal in the 52nd minute dashed India’s hopes of topping Pool C.

In the second match of the day, Germany defeated Canada 8–0, a ​​goal celebration. Laura Pluth and captain Lily Stoffelsma both scored hat tricks, while Katrina Haidt and Joanna Boehringer each scored a goal.

Germany dominated the match throughout the match, earning 14 penalty corners and entering the opponent’s circle several times. With the win, Germany finished second below Belgium in Pool C, while Canada remained at the bottom with zero wins from three.

Australia beat South Africa 4–0 in a one-sided match in their last league match of the World Cup, with two wins and one loss in the pool stage. It was Makayla Jones who opened the scoring for the Australians with a sharp finish in the fourth minute.

Australia got 11 penalty corners, but could convert only one, thanks to South African goalkeeper Morgan de Jager. South Africa finished bottom of Pool A with three losses from three matches.

It was an even match between Netherlands vs Chile as Netherlands, one of the most dangerous teams in the world in women’s hockey, defeated the hosts 7–0. They were in form right from the start and scored three goals in the first ten minutes.

The Netherlands topped Pool A, and qualified for the quarter-finals with Australia, while South Africa and Chile will play in the 9th–16th place qualification matches.
