Bail to former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh with strict conditions, know the whole matter

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) former chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh And Vinod Tomar, former assistant secretary of WFI, has been given bail on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 each. Both are facing trial in the alleged sexual harassment and molestation case filed by six women wrestlers. The court imposed two bail conditions on the two, stating that they are not allowed to leave the country without prior permission of the court and that they will not influence witnesses or tamper with evidence. The court has now listed the matter for further hearing on July 28.
Public prosecutor demanded strict conditions
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal said on Thursday, “I am giving bail on a surety of Rs 25,000 with certain conditions.” During the hearing, the government lawyer representing the Delhi Police said that if Brij Bhushan and Tomar are given relief, then the court should impose strict conditions. When asked if he was opposing bail, he said, “I am neither opposing nor supporting it.” The application should be disposed of in accordance with the law and order passed by the court.
Counsel for the complainant opposed the bail
The counsel for the complainant opposed the bail saying that the accused is very influential. He said, ‘Bail should not be given. If this is allowed, then strict conditions should be imposed. Witnesses have been contacted from time to time. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, 66, is a six-time MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has ruled the wrestling body for 12 years. A total of 21 witnesses have recorded their statements against Singh, out of which six have given their statements under CrPC 164. This comes after both were granted interim bail for two days by the court on Tuesday.
Brijbhushan is cooperating in the investigation
After the court granted interim bail, Jaspal said, ‘In view of the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the accused persons are admitted on interim bail till the next date of hearing on furnishing of a bail bond of an amount of Rs 25,000. Each shall have one surety of like amount.’ Advocate Rajeev Mohan and advocate Rehan Khan, appearing for Singh and Tomar, moved the application seeking bail on the ground that the charge sheet was filed without arrest and they were cooperating in the investigation.
Delhi Police filed chargesheet on June 15
The Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet on June 15 against Singh and Tomar under sections 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage the modesty of a woman), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of women wrestlers. Earlier, two FIRs were registered against the BJP MP. One of these was filed in the case of a minor wrestler under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Later the victim changed her statement. The second case was registered on the complaint of several women wrestlers.

Famous Indian wrestlers including Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia and World Championship medalist Vinesh Phogat protested at Jantar Mantar for 38 days demanding the immediate arrest of Brij Bhushan Singh. They suspended their protest in early June after separate meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. Both the ministers had assured the wrestlers that the charge sheet in the case would be filed by June 15. Although the wrestlers have said that they will continue their fight in the court.
