Bangladesh defeated India in a thrilling match, Shubman Gill’s century was ruined

Colombo. India has suffered its first defeat in Asia Cup 2023. India lost by 6 wickets to Bangladesh on Friday. This was the last Super-Four match of the tournament. The Indian team will play the final against Sri Lanka on Sunday (September 17) while Bangladesh is already out of the tournament. Bangladesh set a target of 266 runs and bowled out India in 49.5 overs at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Opener Shubman Gill played a fighting century for India. He scored 122 runs in 133 balls with the help of 8 fours and 5 sixes. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets while debutant Tanzim Hasan Shakib and Mahedi Hasan took two wickets each. Shakib Al Hasan and Miraj took one wicket each.

India did not make a good start while chasing the target. Captain Rohit Sharma lost his wicket in the first over itself. Debutant Tilak Verma (5 in 9 balls), wicketkeeper batsman Rahul (19 in 39 balls) and Ishan Kishan (5 in 15 balls) failed to play big innings. However, Gill held one end. After adding 57 runs for the third wicket with Rahul, he made a partnership of 45 runs for the fifth wicket with Suryakumar Yadav (26 in 34 balls). Gill made a partnership of 31 runs with Jadeja (7 in 12 balls) and 39 runs with Akshar Patel (42 in 34 balls). Gill was out in the 44th over. After this, Axar and Shardul Thakur (11 in 13 balls) added 40 runs for the eighth wicket. India needed 17 runs to win in the last two overs but the match slipped away due to the dismissal of Akshar and Shardul in the 49th over. India needed 12 runs in the 50th over but Mohammed Shami could hit only one four. The Indian innings came to an end as soon as he was run out.

Earlier, after losing the toss, Bangladesh scored 265 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Captain Shakib Al Hasan (80) scored the most runs for Bangladesh. Bangladesh team had a disappointing start. Opener Tanjeed Hasan (13) was out in the third over and Liton Das (0) was out in the fourth over. Anamul Haq (4) and Mehdi Hasan Miraj (13) did not bat. Bangladesh added 59 runs in 14 overs and lost 4 wickets. Shakib and Tauheed made a partnership of 101 runs for the fifth wicket and took the team beyond 160. Shakib returned to the pavilion in the 34th. He played an inning of 80 runs in 85 balls with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes. Tauheed scored 54 runs in 81 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. He was out in the 42nd over. Nasum Ahmed, who came at number nine, scored 44 runs in 45 balls. Mahedi Hasan remained unbeaten on 29 and Tanzeem Hasan Saqib remained unbeaten on 14 runs. For India, Shardul Thakur took three wickets and Mohammed Shami took two wickets. Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel and Prasidh Krishna took one wicket each.
