BATC: Sindhu returns with victory, India beats China 3-2

Due to there being only two teams in Group W, India’s victory in the knockout was certain even before the first match, but the team entered the knockout with pride by defeating top seed China. Sindhu, who was out of action after suffering a knee injury during the French Open last year, gave India a 1-0 lead by defeating her better ranked Han Yui 21-17 21-15 in 40 minutes.
Hen Yui is at eighth place in the world ranking
Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu, 28, has a world ranking of 11 while Hen Yui is eight. The pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa then had to face defeat against the pair of Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning 19-21 16-21 while Asmita Chaliha also lost against world number nine Wang Xi Yi 13-21 15- India lost by 21 runs, leaving India 1-2 after three matches.
Indian men’s team will face Hong Kong on Wednesday
Trisha Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand then gave India parity by defeating the pair of Li Yi Jing and Luo Shu Min 10-21 21-18 21-17 in one hour and nine minutes. In the decisive match, world number 472 Anmol Kharb defeated world number 149 Wu Leo Yu 22-20 14-21 21-18 in one hour and 17 minutes to ensure India’s victory. The Indian men’s team will face Hong Kong in the Group A league match on Wednesday.
