Pudhari Online: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has been elected as the President of the Asian Cricket Council for the third consecutive time. Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva proposed extension of Shah’s term by Dhiranda Mandla. Or the proposal was unanimously supported by all the members of ACC in the annual general meeting held in Bali.
This is the covenant:
Shah would have taken over the post of Asian Cricket Council President for the first time in January 2021, succeeding Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan. Under Shah’s leadership, ACC would have organized successful Asia Cup in T20 format in 2022 and ODI format in 2023.
“I am grateful to the Asian Cricket Council for the confidence they have shown in me. We must remain committed to the all-round development of sports. Special attention should be focused on the regions where the game is still in its nascent stage. ACC is committed to leading cricket across Asia”, Shah said in his statement.
“Under Shah’s guidance, the Asian Cricket Council has played an important role in scouting and promoting new talent in important cricketing countries like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka,” said Shammi Silva.
Oman Cricket President and ACC Vice President Pankaj Khimji congratulated Shah on his candidature. “Today the stakeholders feel comfortable investing in ACC organized events and credit goes to them for this. This will increase the sports activities in the state,” Khimji responded.
