BCCI should take strict action against Harmanpreet Kaur, former India veteran Madan Lal said this

The Indian women’s team could not win the three-match ODI series on Bangladesh tour. The third and last match was a tie. After this the series ended in a one-to-one draw. After the match, captain Harmanpreet Kaur strongly criticized the umpiring. Even while sharing the trophy after the match, Harmanpreet said a few words to the Bangladeshi counterpart, which certainly did not go down well with him. This reaction of Harmanpreet is being criticized a lot. It is being claimed in many media reports that Harmanpreet commented on Bangladeshi players even in the photo session, due to which the entire Bangladesh team returned to their dressing room.

Harmanpreet came out of the field very angry

Madan Lal, India’s veteran player and a part of the 1983 World Cup winning team, has now demanded strict action from the BCCI. He scolded the Indian captain for his bad behaviour. Harmanpreet Kaur was very disappointed with the level of umpiring in the third match. After getting out, he hit his bat on the stump. There were two other instances where India’s batsmen were left frustrated by controversial umpiring. The 34-year-old had criticized the umpires in the post-match conversation before disrespecting Bangladesh players during a photo-op with the trophy.

In a video that went viral a day after the match, the India captain can be seen apparently calling the umpires to share the trophy. Means Harmanpreet tried to tell the umpires as part of Bangladesh team. After this, humiliated Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultan urged her players to leave the photo session. 1983 World Cup winning player Madan has criticized Harmanpreet for this behavior on Twitter and demanded strict action from the BCCI.

Madan Lal said this

Madan Lal wrote in a post on social media that Harmanpreet’s behavior against the Bangladesh women’s team was pathetic. It is not bigger than the game. Due to this, the name of Indian cricket has been spoiled. BCCI should take very strict disciplinary action. Talking about Harmanpreet’s behaviour, Nigar criticized the Indian captain. He said, ‘This is completely her (Harmanpreet Kaur’s) problem. I have nothing to do with it. As a player, she could have shown better manners. I can’t tell you what happened, but it didn’t feel right to be there (for photographs) with my team. It was not the right environment. So we went back. Cricket is a game of discipline and respect.

Harmanpreet’s behavior against the Bangladesh women’s team was pathetic. She is not bigger than the game. She got a very bad name for Indian cricket. BCCI should take very strict disciplinary action.

Under the leadership of Harmanpreet, the Indian women’s team also played a series of three T20 matches on the tour of Bangladesh. India had won that series 2-1. When the match was tied in the last ODI, Harmanpreet said that we were the victim of bad umpiring. If the standard of umpiring was right, we would definitely have won both the match and the series. The BCCI and the ICC are yet to announce their statement on the incident, but reports claim that he could be fined 75 per cent of his match fee along with demerit points.

A video has gone viral on social media in which Harmanpreet is asking someone to join the series end photoshoot of India and Bangladesh teams. It was reported by ESPNCricinfo that the India captain shouted during the photoshoot, ‘bring on the umpires too’, suggesting that the umpires are also part of the Bangladesh team, therefore, they should also be included in the photographs. The video that has gone viral on social media has almost confirmed that Harmanpreet had said some of these lines. Such an act by the Indian skipper prompted his Bangladeshi counterpart Nigar Nigar Sultana to take her team back to the dressing room.

Smriti Mandhana defended the captain

In the press conference after the match, India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was also asked about the said incident. Mandhana confirmed that Harmanpreet said a few words against the umpires but did not say anything on the Bangladesh captain or the team. Mandhana said, ‘I don’t think he has said anything about the Bangladesh captain. From whatever I have heard, it seems that he has said something about umpiring. I don’t think he has said anything about them (Bangladesh players). Mandhana said in the press conference, ‘We should not talk about those things which did not happen during the match. Things were not on camera after the match, it is something that happened after the post-match presentation, so let’s not talk about it.
