Bhutia demands fresh elections of AIFF, says Prabhakaran has been made a scapegoat

Indian football legend Bhaichung Bhutia, who lost badly in the All India Football Federation (AIFF) presidential election last year, on Wednesday strongly criticized the current president Kalyan Choubey and demanded fresh elections. This former Indian captain has raised this demand after AIFF General Secretary Shaji Prabhakaran was sacked due to ‘lack of trust’. He said that the Choubey led organization has made Prabhakaran a scapegoat. “The blame for breach of trust should not be placed on Shaji alone but on all the members leading the AIFF, including the president, vice-president and treasurer,” Bhutia told PTI from Gangtok.
He said, “Everyone wants to know where this trust was broken and how it was violated. The president and secretary have taken major decisions together every time, including participating in the Asian Games and withdrawing from the bid to host the Asia Cup. But here Shaji is being made a scapegoat, Bhutia said. Used to be. The (whole) team, the President, General Secretary, Vice President and Treasurer are responsible for this mess. All should be removed and elections should be held under the new constitution.
He said, “I am not surprised by Shaji’s dismissal. Ever since the new management took over, there has been gross mismanagement. Choubey, a former India goalkeeper and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, defeated Bhutia by securing 33 out of 34 votes in the elections held on September 2 last year. He took over as the President of All India Football Federation. He is the first player to hold the top post of this organization.
