Miami. India’s star tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden entered the men’s doubles final of the Miami Open with a straight set win over Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos here. Australian Open winners Bopanna and Ebden didn’t have to break a sweat during their 6-1 6-4 victory over Spain’s Granollers and Argentina’s Zeballos in the semi-finals on Thursday night.

In the final, Bopanna and Ebden will face Croatia’s Ivan Dodig and America’s Austin Krajicek, who defeated Germany’s Kevin Kravetz and Tim Putz 6-4 6-7(7) 10-7 in the other semi-final. Bopanna had slipped to second place in the doubles rankings following his quarterfinal defeat at the Dubai Championship and his round of 32 exit at the Indian Wells Masters but this win will help him regain the top spot in the rankings to be updated on Monday.

After the Australian Open victory, 44-year-old Bopanna became the oldest player to top the ATP rankings. For Bopanna, this will be his 14th ATP Masters 1000 final and his first in Miami. This will be his 63rd final at the ATP Tour level. He has won 25 doubles titles so far. This will be the fifth final of ATP Masters 1000 for the pair of Bopanna and Ebden. Bopanna also achieved another feat in his name, becoming the second Indian after Leander Paes to reach the finals of all nine ATP Masters tournaments.
