Wellington. Tom Latham will lead an experienced ODI team against England this September in what will be the team’s final series before the ICC Cricket World Cup starting in India in October.
Trent Boult is in line to play his first One Day International in almost a year after being included in a 15-man-strong squad that also features the ODI return of Kyle Jamieson following a back injury.
Mark Chapman and Jimmy Neesham will miss the four-match series as they await the birth of their first children, while Ish Sodhi will also return after the T20I series against England to spend time with his family ahead of cricket’s busy period. Returning home.
Kane Williamson will rejoin the team during the tour of England to continue training and rehabilitating after undergoing surgery for his torn anterior cruciate ligament in April.
Michael Bracewell is unavailable for selection as he continues to recover from surgery on his broken foot in June.
Blackcaps coach Gary Stead said the series represented good preparation for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup.
“England have been an impressive white-ball side for some time now and we are looking forward to taking them on home ground on the eve of the World Cup,” he was quoted as saying by NZC.
“Obviously we have a history of great matches against them and I am sure the four matches will provide all the usual drama and excitement.
“It should be a really competitive series and I know the group will be keen to return to playing at grounds like The Oval and Lord’s once again.”
Stead acknowledged the return of Boult and Jamieson, who had gone their separate ways back into the team.
Stead confirmed that the Blackcaps’ 15-player squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup in India would be announced in early September, with the exact date yet to be confirmed.
The Blackcaps’ final ODI series before the World Cup will be a three-match series in Bangladesh in late September.
Additional Blackcaps coaching assistance for the World Cups in England, Bangladesh and India will be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, pacers Blair Tickner and Ben Lister have been called up in the Blackcaps’ T20 squad for next week’s UAE tour after Henry Shipley and Lockie Ferguson were withdrawn.(IANS)
