Boycott of Spain’s Women’s World Cup winning national team continues

madrid (Uttam Hindu News): 23 members of Spain’s Women’s World Cup-winning team have informed the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) that they will continue their boycott of the national team.
With 23 World Cup champions and an additional 12 players who had previously refused to play when Jorge Vilda was team coach.
Now the decision comes despite the recent dismissal of Wilda and the appointment of his former assistant, Montse Tome. The development comes just days after Luis Rubiales announced his resignation as RFEF president.
According to news agency Xinhua, his decision comes after the controversy in which he was seen kissing Spanish player Jenny Hermoso on the lips during the celebration of Spain’s 1-0 World Cup final victory over England in August.
In response to that incident, 23 World Cup winners signed a communiqué along with other female players. He claimed that Rubiales would not represent Spain as long as he remained with the RFEF.
Even with the departure of Vilda and Rubiales, it seems that players are demanding more profound changes to the way the RFEF women’s team is managed.
Montse Tomé is set to announce his squad this Friday, as Spain prepare to face Sweden on September 22 and Switzerland just four days later.
