Capitals crushed Mumbai by nine wickets

Mumbai (Best Hindu News): Due to the excellent performance of the bowlers, Delhi Capitals defeated Mumbai Indians by nine wickets in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Monday and secured the first place in the points table.

Mumbai scored 109 runs while batting first. Capitals achieved the target of 110 runs in nine overs on the basis of Meg Lanning, Shefali Verma and Ellyse Capsi’s fast batting.

Opener Shafali neutralized Mumbai’s bowling in the first over, scoring 33 off 15 balls with six fours and a six, while her partner Lanning scored an unbeaten 32 off 22 balls with four fours and a six. . Capsy finally batted Atishi, scoring 38 runs off 17 balls with the help of one four and five sixes.

The Capitals are now at the top of the WPL table with five wins and two losses from seven matches, while Mumbai have slipped a rung to the second spot. Both the teams have already qualified for the playoffs.

The Capitals decided to bowl after winning the toss and restricted the run-rate by giving Mumbai three wickets in 10 runs.

Marizanne Kapp dismissed Yastika Bhatia and Nate Siver Brunt in the same over, while Hayley Mathews fell to a brilliant catch by Jemimah Rodrigues in the fourth over. Amelia Kerr spent 16 balls on the pitch but managed eight runs during that time. Could make Pooja Vastrakar, who came to the crease after the fall of four wickets, attacked the Capitals bowlers by adopting a regressive strategy.

Vastrakar shared a 37-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Harmanpreet Kaur, scoring 26 runs off 19 balls with the help of three fours and a six. Kapp led the Capitals bowling, taking two wickets for just 13 runs in four overs. Shikha Pandey (4 overs, 21 runs) and Johnson (4 overs, 25 runs) got two wickets each, while Arundhati Reddy (3 overs, 10 runs) got a breakthrough.

Mumbai had to give initial shocks to the Capitals to defend this small target but Lanning started the innings by hitting two fours in the first over. Shafali also joined the tone of Lanning, hitting Wong for three fours in the next over. Captain Harmanpreet gave the fourth over to her top spinner Saika Ishaq in search of a wicket, although Lanning-Shefali successfully added 17 runs in this over as well.

Mumbai’s first breakthrough came in the fifth over when Shefali was stumped in an attempt to edge past Mathews, though that was the only blow to the Capitals’ pace-paced innings.

Coming in to bat at number three, Capsy welcomed Mathews with three sixes and a four. Kerr bowled economically in the eighth over, conceding just two runs, although by then the match was out of hand. Lanning gave the Capitals victory by taking two runs on the last ball of the ninth over.

Capitals will face UP Warriors in their last match of the league stage on Tuesday, while Mumbai will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last match.
