antiga Carl Hooper will join the West Indies as the first assistant coach ahead of the ODI series against the United Arab Emirates and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier campaign.
Former West Indies captain Carl Hooper will return as assistant to white-ball head coach Daren Sammy for the three-match ODI series against the United Arab Emirates. Having played 329 international matches for the West Indies over 15 years, Hooper has coached and mentored at various levels in the Caribbean and Australia.
The ICC reported that the 56-year-old was most recently the assistant coach of the Adelaide Strikers during Australia’s Big Bash League season last summer. Hooper has also held coaching roles with the Antigua Hawksbills and Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League, and was previously a mentor at the West Indies High Performance Center in Barbados.
The all-rounder has scored over 5000 runs and taken over 100 wickets in both Tests and ODIs. He was the captain of West Indies from 2001 to 2003.
“When Daren initially approached me about the potential opportunity, I immediately expressed my interest, as I really want to help take on the challenge and make a meaningful impact,” Hooper said. I firmly believe that it is time for West Indies cricket to move forward, and I am confident in my ability, knowledge and experience to assist in this endeavour.”
