The winner of the World Cup was decided on Thursday through a tiebreaker, where Carlsen won the first rapid game of 25 minutes. The second game ended in a draw and Magnus Carlsen managed to win the World Cup for the first time since 2021.

This is Carlsen’s first win in the World Cup but he has won the World Championship five times. He faced a tough challenge from India’s 18-year-old Praggnananda in the first tiebreak match and won after 45 moves. However, in the second match, he dominated and won easily. Earlier, two classical matches were drawn on Tuesday and Wednesday, due to which the match was drawn in tiebreak.

Praggnanandha youngest Indian player to play in World Cup final

Praggnanandhaa beat world number two Hikaru Nakamura and world number three Fabiano Caruana in the tournament to set up a final against Carlsen. After this tournament, Pragyanananda made it to the Candidates 2024 tournament which will be held in Canada. He became the third youngest player after Bobby Fischer and Carlsen to make it to the tournament. Praggnanandhaa wrote a golden chapter in the history of Indian chess by becoming the second and youngest Indian player after Viswanathan Anand to play the FIDE World Cup final.
