The name of this surveillance app is stalkerware. It is planted in users’ phones. It is present on the home screen of the phone but users are not able to detect it. Spyhide malware continuously uploads real-time details of users’ phone contacts, messages, photos, call logs, recordings and location data.
What data is collected:
According to a report, Spyhide has been stealing users’ data since 2016. The data that is collected includes information about when the photo or video was taken and uploaded. The data collected by SpyHide includes 3.29 million text messages. These messages include a two-step verification code and a password reset link. Contains over 1.2 million call logs, approximately 312000 call recording files, over 925000 contact lists and 382000 photos. The report states that it also has 7,50,000 user records who signed up for the app.
How to check and delete:
It becomes difficult to find this app in Android phones. The report states that SpyHide disguises itself as Google Settings with a cog icon or a ringtone app called T.Ringtone with a musical note icon. Users can see a list of apps that are being allowed to access the device’s data. For this, go to the Settings menu and open the App list. Scroll down to Apps and quickly uninstall any apps you don’t know you downloaded.
